Commissioner Niedwiecki to Hold Town Hall on Budget and Taxes

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

In lieu of my regular office hours before the September 2nd Commission Meeting, I will be holding a meeting with residents to discuss the city’s budget and taxes.

I want to hear from residents on how best to balance the budget, maintain an appropriate tax rate, and provide essential services to our residents. Please join me for this Town Hall on September 3, 2009, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Jaco Community Center. Any resident interested may attend.

I want to hear from you! The City Commission will vote on the millage rate and other assessments on September 9, 2009 at 6:30 p.m., so I hope to hear from many residents at the Town Hall.

Join us for Anthony Niedwiecki’s Swearing-In to Office this Wednesday!

Monday, March 16th, 2009

PhotobucketPlease join us as I get sworn in to the Oakland Park City Commission this Wednesday March 18th! This would not have been possible without all of the support from friends, family, and residents, so your presence will make the occasion truly special.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., and the ceremony should occur sometime between 7 and 7:30. It will take place at Oakland Park City Hall, 3650 NE 12th Avenue.

There will be cake and punch after the ceremony, and then we will have a champagne toast at Oakland Park Main Street, which is located at 3407 N. Dixie Hwy (in the Squires shopping center across from City Hall).

In addition to becoming a commissioner, my birthday is on March 18th, so come celebrate both occasions with us this Wednesday! Thanks again to everyone who made this possible!

We did it! Victory in Oakland Park!

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

All of the hard work, long hours, and dedication has paid off. The results are in and I have been elected the next Commissioner in Oakland Park, Seat 4.

PhotobucketI am so pleased and humbled that the voters of Oakland Park have decided to trust me to be their next Commissioner. By receiving the most votes among all of the candidates in Oakland Park, I will become Vice Mayor in 2010 and Mayor in 2011. The victory speaks to the change that residents in Oakland Park are looking for, and I promise to work my hardest to be your voice on the commission.

This election was about all of you. I want to thank everyone who supported and voted for me. I was so fortunate to have so many people give me their time, money, and energy, and I could not have done this without your help. Thank you.

Friday, March 6th, 2009

First, I want to thank everyone for their amazing support as we move into the final days of this election. This has truly been a campaign built on community, friendship, and dedication!

PhotobucketBut we’re not done yet! We need some volunteers for our final “get out the vote” efforts this weekend and on Election Day. We are organizing a group of volunteers to canvass homes this weekend and to phone bank on Sunday afternoon.

We also need volunteers to be at the polls on Election Day and hold up signs, hand out campaign literature, and urge voters to vote for real change in Oakland Park!

One Week to Go! Let’s move Oakland Park forward!

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

vote-smart-buttonblog.jpgIn one week, voters will go to the polls in Oakland Park. With the tough and uncertain times facing us, we need to make sure we come together, speak with one voice, and demand leaders who will not only listen to us, but also fight for our rights, homes, and quality of life.

That’s why on Tuesday, March 10th, I hope you will vote for me in Seat 4. As a longtime community activist, I have a proven record of action for Oakland Park. I have always been here with you- fighting for our rights as residents and homeowners in this amazing city we call home.

Anthony Niedwiecki’s Strong Vision and Proven Leadership Earns More Endorsements

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

I am pleased and honored to have the support of three more groups from our community as I work to become your voice on the Oakland Park City Commission:

Florida Carpenter’s Regional Council PAC – represents every carpenter in the field through organizing and negotiating better wages and working conditions, as well as providing apprenticeship training to those who want to become carpenters.

The Realtor’s Association of Greater Fort Lauderdale – one of the largest REALTOR® Associations in the State of Florida, whose mission is to promote the highest standards of professional practice in the real estate community.

The Victory Fund – A national organization that endorses candidates for public office who are convincing champions for true equality.

It is humbling to have the support of these groups, as well as the other amazing groups that have endorsed my candidacy. I have long been an advocate for the city’s workers, and my plan for economic development will have a positive impact on the residents, workers, and businesses of our city. So many lives, jobs, and families depend on our home values, so making Oakland Park a thriving destination to live and revitalizing our housing market is one of my top priorities.

Sun-Sentinel: “Oakland Park commission issues include blight, budget”

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

By Jennifer Gollan | South Florida Sun-Sentinel
1:49 PM EST, February 19, 2009

OAKLAND PARK – Six candidates hoping for a seat on the Oakland Park City Commission vow to help the city navigate thorny issues ranging from improving blighted areas to fixing an $8 million budget gap.

But they differ over how best to accomplish these goals with declining property values draining much-needed money from the city.

The candidates in the March 10 election are Anne Sallee and William Sears for Seat 1; Anthony Niedwiecki and Michael Carn for Seat 4; and Commissioner Suzanne Boisvenue and Jedidiah “Jed” Shank for Seat 5.

The candidates run citywide and winners serve four year terms.

With the exception of Sallee and Carn, the candidates said they opposed the fee and tax hikes the city imposed this fiscal year. But what to do next year?

Showing Oakland Park’s True Value

Monday, February 16th, 2009

PhotobucketI had the privilege of attending and supporting the Valentine’s Day Rally against the proposed Value Place Hotel on Powerline this weekend. But I wasn’t there as a candidate, I was there as a resident, community activist, and concerned citizen of our city. As President of the North Andrews Neighborhood Association, I was pleased to see our neighborhoods come together and express our disapproval of a development that has the potential to harm the make-up of our communities, as well as the value and safety of our homes.

It is clear, however, that some commissioners should have done more to try to stop this project from going forward. That is why on March 10th we must elect more leaders that represent the concerns of all the residents and every neighborhood. In these difficult times, we simply cannot vote in more of the same. We must vote for real change and real representation. That is why I have put forward a clear plan on ways to improve our economic development in Oakland Park, as well as pushed for stronger communication between the city and residents that would strengthen our neighborhoods.
